Navigation and controls

We want the website to be useful to people with different access needs. Its navigation and controls include the following features.

Move between controls
Use Tab to move forward and Shift + Tab to move back. A visible outline identifies the focused control.
Skip the main navigation
The first keyboard link is “Skip to content”. Activate it to move to the page’s main content.
Activate links and buttons
Use Enter for a focused link. Buttons can be activated with Enter or Space.
Close a menu or overlay
Use its Close button or press Escape. Focus returns to the control that opened it.

Page headings and navigation regions provide structure for assistive technology. Enquiry fields have labels, identify required information and show validation messages before an enquiry can be submitted.

Reading and display

Most page text is selectable. You can use your browser’s zoom and text-size settings, and page layouts adapt to narrower screens. Images have text alternatives, with further context in captions or the surrounding copy where relevant.

Use the globe button in the header to choose your language. Arabic reads from right to left. The language control and translated content require JavaScript.

The site reduces animations and smooth scrolling when your device or browser requests reduced motion.

Interactive features

Menus, filters, language choices and enquiry submission use JavaScript. If an interactive feature is unavailable, you can contact us directly using the details below.

Documents and working guides

Client work and editorial diagrams

Anonymous case studies and diagrams use selectable text, headings and lists to explain the work. Their reading order follows the information presented on the page.

Original working guides

Our five working guides open as HTML documents with text and labelled worksheet fields. You can read them in a browser, complete the worksheets and print or save a copy as PDF. PDFs created through browser printing have not been verified for screen-reader accessibility.

If you need a particular passage, chart or guide in another format, tell us which information you need and the format that would help. We can discuss what can be provided.

Help with access

If something prevents you from using the website or a working guide, please contact us. You do not need to use the enquiry form to report an access problem.

To help us understand the issue, please include:

  • The page link or document title.
  • What you were trying to do and what went wrong.
  • The format or way of receiving information that would help.

Your browser, device or assistive technology may help us investigate, but you do not need to provide those details to ask for help.

Improving access

We aim to make the website easier to use across different devices and ways of accessing information. Accessibility is part of the work of maintaining and improving the site.

Feedback about a specific barrier helps us identify where improvements are needed. If you cannot access information in its current format, contact us so we can discuss a practical alternative.
